Corpus Christie, Texas “rump convention”

Apr 29, 2008 in Ron Paul General

Many delegates are finding that the local GOP are using various methods to disenfranchise Ron Paul delegates. One such ploy is to introduce the slate of delegates without reading the names so that people will know if their names are on the slate. In this manner delegates can be elected who may not have gone thought the legitimate process and are substituted for Ron Paul delegates. Many delegates are surprised when that gavel comes down and a second is declared and the selection slate is approved. What can be done to prohibit an illegal convention? People have been given a legitimate process to follow in this case and it is called a “rump convention.” This is when delegates openly challenge the legitimacy of the “official” convention and state that they are having a “rump” convention - or a convention that we be held outside the official convention for purposes of electing “legal” delegates. A record of the proceedings are then presented to the Credentials committee for resolution.

Make sure that you record the proceedings in the official convention (audio is good, video is better) and the official call for the rump convention. Also record the rump convention. If the state party refuses to acknowledge the duly elected delegates from the rump convention, you can appeal to the Republican National Committee.

A word of caution: Please read your state party rules, your state party bi-laws and the portion of your state election code which dictates party procedures, Often times the state statutes will mirror the party rules. If so, then you also have state law on your side and an appeal can also be made to the state Attorney General.

Hats off to our Corpus members who held our first recorded “rump convention”! Following is an audio of those proceedings. Please keep in mind that this is a last resort, but if Roberts Rules are not being followed, this may be your only alternative.

And remember, Theodore Roosevelt’s delegates held “rump” conventions all over the United States in the 1912 election. The credentials committee refused to recognize the delegates and the “Progressive” Party was formed with Roosevelt as it’s nominee. Although it has not been used widely in the last 60 or so years, it is a legitimate way for the “people” to call for a legitimate delegate election process and challenge and illegal official convention.

Also remember that video cameras were not invented yet so it was hard to prove what actually went on. That is not the case today. The “proof” will be undeniable and if an illegal national convention is held that can be videoed as well. I need to do some research and find out if there are any other alternatives if there is an illegal national convention held such as appealing to the U.S. Attorney General.

Excerpt from the 1912 Convention: (inspiring for us all! Please read it!) Excerpt from 1912 Rump Convention

And now our Corpus members have done the same thing except they have audio! Here it is!

HOW the NeoCons Stole Freedom - and how to take it back

Thanks to Melinda Pillsbury Foster for this great article!

The People Are Governing Themselves.

Most of us think of a people governing themselves as just so much rhetoric. Not true. The last year of the Ron Paul Revolution has proven that using the social networking tools provided by the Internet we can indeed come together to take action that is unprecedented in scope and power. These have been early steps but, in fact, whether or not Ron Paul is inaugurated as President next January, a mass movement of people have created the tools that provide the means to displace the present morass of government. We will change the world.

It was impossible. It happened anyway. Now it will become the new standard for what it means to be a grass roots and the marker that changes the measure of political action. The panic you see in those in power, the threats of martial law, are evidence that they know perfectly well their ploys are not working.

Despite what many say the Ron Paul Revolution is not over and Ron Paul, as the singular icon and spokesman for the movement that bears his name, will continue. We will displace the status quo imposed by government, stop the profits of grid corporations and those who control them. The Revolution will accomplish that not because of any brilliance in the Official Campaign. It has proven itself to be incompetent at the most elementary political tasks. It will happen anyway.

The people are doing it themselves.

Americans are coming together from all imaginable points and so changing the landscape on which the political battles of the near future will be played out. We are set up for a realigning election despite the Vote Stealing Machines and despite the ugliness of those in power.

At the foundation of this change is the Revolution. Hierarchy in its various forms has proven itself to be no match for the hub, the network, where individuals either cooperate or decline to be involved, keeping their money and time for other purposes.

Future historians will, given the time, explain it all as inevitable and they will also explain how Americans regained access to the truth through a media they controlled in the same fashion. That is about to happen; again it will shock the establishment and those who use the tools of the past.

There is power in the Hub and power in the Mesh. The impact of the Hub has hit, the Mesh is about to be felt.

The Hub is the sharing of knowledge to facilitate cooperation. You see that in the Revolution. We share freely. The Mesh takes the Hub one step further into our communities, building the platform for local cooperation that connects to others like a sea of wildflowers in springtime. Getting off the grids has many parts, this is one of them.

The Revolution faces a series of challenges. It will use the same tools to solve those problems that it has used this last year.

Stolen Elections, the Media, the economy, the list seems endless.

The first issue is elections and local organizing. Other needs will follow. We will displace the MSM with the truth, reported without being filtered; given to us unmanicured and without being withheld until convenient. The media is now an extension of the PR departments of major corporations. To enact change will enable the people to become their own media.

The people are now poised to take elections back in to their own hands. Over the last months a coalition has been building. Elections will be run at the precinct by committees elected by the people in that precinct; votes will be counted by the same process. The totals will then be placed on line and counted transparently, leaving no doubt as to the outcomes. No longer right and left, there is one agenda.

We will pass model legislation where this is proscribed by law; we will demand our money back from the companies who sold us vote stealing machines. Let them figure out what to do with the things.

The new media coming into existence will tell the truth because it will be run on the same principles that run the Revolution, transparency, cooperation, and individual freedom.

The basic tool is the Mesh Wireless Node. You can buy one for around $500.00 and connect hundreds of homes. CUWiN Community Wireless Solutions. The same system can be used to set up neighborhood barter exchanges, organize emergency preparedness, and food coops, something Americans will need increasingly in the months to come.

It might seem new but it is actually the original American tradition of individual initiative, continued today by such organizations are REACT. The people still govern themselves at the most local level, we have simply not noticed.

REACT links people together and has been doing so since January 23, 1962. They are all volunteers except for one lady, Dora Wilbanks, who runs their office in Maryland. They have focused on emergency situations; the form is local, voluntary, and cooperative. They are routinely asked to help find lost children and provide communications for such disasters as the wild fires that destroyed parts of California in 2003 and 2007. Ed Greany, Executive Vice President of REACT International, said for this article that the technologies for radio and the Internet are converging. Cooperation is not only possible it is natural. Their teams are local, organizing on what is near the precinct, or neighborhood, level.

The first requirement for an honest media is the means of transmission and the people to give you the truth. The list of needs in neighborhoods includes those now provided by REACT. We can help each other. We have the technologies and the people, now we need to bring them together.

Our new media will use the same principles and organization that gives the Revolution its power. We need the truth, not cheesy anchorpersons whose eyes are firmly on their next gig. We do not need another Times – Warner or another Faux News; corporations have been the problem. The Revolution is not about turning a profit. It is not glamorous. It is people coming together to enact freedom. If we wanted glamor and a more lavish life style we would go into acting, not activism.

The tool you use determines the outcome you get. We want the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We want to restore power at the local level so that we can govern ourselves. We will become the solution.

It will be different, friendlier, better for families and us as individuals.

Given the content of the news today that is a good thing The new media will give you control of what you hear about and you will not have to worry so much about unpleasant surprises because transparency and going local means that surprises are not as likely to be unpleasant. Locally, you know who is to be trusted with your lawnmower, experience tells you that.

You will not remember next year which new cell phone you had but you will remember the things that really matter. Your local news will be what matters most.

“Frank Truehearted got a record number of strawberries from his garden yesterday. See him if you want to trade. He says he would like some asparagus. Kelly Morganstern has started her own lemonade stand at the corner of Harp and Philo Streets. You can buy cups and cookies for Local Exchange or for script, your choice. The Chocolate Chip Cookies are to die for.

And now for the National News.

The new Congress has voted to make the president’s salary dependent on how much he can bring in using the White House as a B & B. Call the President for reservations or make yours online.”

We are heading for a different world. Buy the cookies, they are open source so you can get the recipe.

Get off the Grids, Organize Locally, Build Coalition

Be the Revolution

Delegate Selection by State

Feb 29, 2008 in Delegate Selection, Grassroots Tools, Ron Paul General

We want to thank the Republican Source for this in depth information. For information specific to you state go to http://www.republicansource.com/primaries.htm
Convention Delegates

Total Number of Delegates: 2488

The allocation of delegates to the 2008 Republican National Convention, which will be held September 1-4, 2008 in a city to be announced in early 2007, is determined as follows:

BASE DELEGATES Each state selects six at-large delegates. American Samoa, Virgin Islands & Guam have four at-large delegates each; Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia have fourteen at-large delegates.

DISTRICT DELEGATES Each state also selects three delegates for each member it has in the U.S. House of Representatives

BONUS DELEGATES Each state can earn additional delegates by meeting one or more of the following requirements: the state cast a majority of its votes for the Republican presidential candidate in the previous presidential election, the state elected Republicans to the U.S. House or Senate, selected a Republican Governor or state legislative majorities, and / or the state holds its presidential primary election after March 15th (this is to discourage states from holding early primaries).

Bonus delegates are awarded based on the number of party members elected as Presidential Electors (2004), Governors (2004-2007), House members (2004-2007), Senators (2002-2007), and state legislatures (2004-2007).

Republican delegate counts are based on the number of Republicans elected to the State Legislatures, Governors chairs, U.S. House seats, and U.S. Senators seats through 31 December 2007. Republican unpledged delegate counts are determined by state (or equivalent) party rules and assume that the policies of 2004 will apply in 2008.

Delegate Selection Processes in the States

Delegates are awarded based on the results of Primaries, Caucuses and/or Convention votes. There are significant differences in the way national convention delegates are chosen from state to state. Some states award delegates to candidates on a “winner-take-all” basis, meaning that the candidate with the most votes in a state during a primary election is awarded all of that state’s delegates. Other states award delegates in proportion to each candidate’s share of the primary vote.

Another important distinction is whether delegates are “bound” or “not bound” to vote for the same candidate the voters in his or her state or district supported in the primary. These rules also vary widely by state.

What Happens When a Candidate Bows Out?

When an individual formally releases delegates already pledged to him or her - a withdrawing candidate must specifically free his/her own delegates to vote for whomever they might choose during the Convention - it is not a requirement for those delegates to vote for another candidate who is endorsed by the withdrawing candidate.

However, history has demonstrated that most, if not all, delegates pledged to a candidate who has released them will follow that candidate’s lead and vote for the candidate he/she has endorsed. Nevertheless, a withdrawing candidate may not release delegates pledged to him/her so long as the presidential nomination is still undetermined (after all, these delegates can be a valuable bargaining chip for future considerations). Even where a nomination is already determined, a presidential candidate who represents the Party fringe might hold onto his delegates as long as possible in order to get concessions.

Delegate Allocation

For Jurisdictions with Constitutionally Elected Members of Congress:

  • 10 At-Large delegates from each state, that is, 5 at-large delegates for each U.S. Senator.
  • 3 District delegates for each U.S. Representative.

For Jurisdictions without Constitutionally Elected Members of Congress:

  • 6 at-large delegates from American Samoa.
  • 16 at-large delegates from the District of Columbia.
  • 6 at-large delegates from Guam.
  • 6 at-large delegates from Northern Mariana Islands
  • 20 at-large delegates from Puerto Rico.
  • 6 at-large delegates from Virgin Islands.

For all Jurisdictions - 3 party leaders: the national committeeman, the national committee woman, and the chairman of the state Republican Party.

Bonus Delegates:

  • 2004 Bonus: States casting a majority of their 2004 Electoral Votes for the Republican Candidate receive 4.5 + 0.60 × the Jurisdiction’s Total 2004 Electoral Vote bonus delegates. Should the District of Columbia cast the majority of their electoral votes for the Republican Candidate, the District will receive 4.5 + (0.30 × 16) bonus delegates. (Round any fractions UP to the next integer.)
  • U.S. Senate: Award 1 bonus delegate for each Republican Senator elected in the 6 year period (November 5, 2002, November 2, 2004, November 7, 2006) prior to January 1, 2008. (Limit 2)
  • Governor: States electing a Republican Governor between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2007 receive 1 bonus delegate. (Limit: 1)
  • U.S. House: States electing Republicans to 50% or more of the their U.S. House seats between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2007 receive 1 bonus delegate. (Limit 1)
  • One Chamber: States electing a Republican majority to one chamber of the state legislature (OR the legislature is presided over by a Republican) receive 1 bonus delegate. (Limit 1).
  • All Chambers: States electing a Republican majority to all chambers of the state legislature (or all chambers are presided over by a Republican) between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2007 receive 1 bonus delegate. (Limit 1).

Canada, U.S. agree to use each other’s troops in civil emergencies

Feb 28, 2008 in Grassroots Speak, Sovereignty Be Damned

David Pugliese , Canwest News Service

Published: Friday, February 22, 2008

Canada and the U.S. have signed an agreement that paves the way for the militaries from either nation to send troops across each other’s borders during an emergency, but some are questioning why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal.

Neither the Canadian government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, which was signed Feb. 14 in Texas.

The U.S. military’s Northern Command, however, publicized the agreement with a statement outlining how its top officer, Gen. Gene Renuart, and Canadian Lt.-Gen. Marc Dumais, head of Canada Command, signed the plan, which allows the military from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation during a civil emergency.

American soldiers arrive on board the HMCS TORONTO as part of a training exercise in carrying out a NATO presence patrol in the Indian Ocean near Somalia. A new agreement between the U.S. and Canadian militaries has been greeted with suspicion by the left wing in Canada and the right wing in the U.S.

The new agreement has been greeted with suspicion by the left wing in Canada and the right wing in the U.S.

The left-leaning Council of Canadians, which is campaigning against what it calls the increasing integration of the U.S. and Canadian militaries, is raising concerns about the deal.

“It’s kind of a trend when it comes to issues of Canada-U.S. relations and contentious issues like military integration. We see that this government is reluctant to disclose information to Canadians that is readily available on American and Mexican websites,” said Stuart Trew, a researcher with the Council of Canadians.

Trew said there is potential for the agreement to militarize civilian responses to emergency incidents. He noted that work is also underway for the two nations to put in place a joint plan to protect common infrastructure such as roadways and oil pipelines.

“Are we going to see (U.S.) troops on our soil for minor potential threats to a pipeline or a road?” he asked.

Trew also noted the U.S. military does not allow its soldiers to operate under foreign command so there are questions about who controls American forces if they are requested for service in Canada. “We don’t know the answers because the government doesn’t want to even announce the plan,” he said.

But Canada Command spokesman Commander David Scanlon said it will be up to civilian authorities in both countries on whether military assistance is requested or even used.

He said the agreement is “benign” and simply sets the stage for military-to-military co-operation if the governments approve.

“But there’s no agreement to allow troops to come in,” he said. “It facilitates planning and co-ordination between the two militaries. The ‘allow’ piece is entirely up to the two governments.”

If U.S. forces were to come into Canada they would be under tactical control of the Canadian Forces but still under the command of the U.S. military, Scanlon added.

News of the deal, and the allegation it was kept secret in Canada, is already making the rounds on left-wing blogs and Internet sites as an example of the dangers of the growing integration between the two militaries.

On right-wing blogs in the U.S. it is being used as evidence of a plan for a “North American union” where foreign troops, not bound by U.S. laws, could be used by the American federal government to override local authorities.

“Co-operative militaries on Home Soil!” notes one website. “The next time your town has a ‘national emergency,’ don’t be surprised if Canadian soldiers respond. And remember - Canadian military aren’t bound by posse comitatus.”

Posse comitatus is a U.S. law that prohibits the use of federal troops from conducting law enforcement duties on domestic soil unless approved by Congress.

Scanlon said there was no intent to keep the agreement secret on the Canadian side of the border. He noted it will be reported on in the Canadian Forces newspaper next week and that publication will be put on the Internet.

Scanlon said the actual agreement hasn’t been released to the public as that requires approval from both nations. That decision has not yet been taken, he added.

Newcomer to Politics

Feb 28, 2008 in Ron Paul General

I am a newcomer to this arena, and while not all that excited about it, I have had to realize that if everyone did as I have done for 69 years, i.e. stay removed from it, then what would happen is exactly what HAS happened, that is the enemy takes over.

That being said, I am principally a writer, believing still that in at least some respects the pen is mightier than the sword.

I was on the Penny Freeman call on Tuesday night, and was very pleased to hear that there are many others who share my thoughts and feelings.

Well, to make this short, at our recent Kennebec County Maine Republican Party caucus, I allowed myself, for better or for worse, to get elected as secretary of the Republican Party here in the town I live in. One has to start somewhere.

I look at Ron Paul and the fact that he has stood solid for 20 years ?? swimming upstream, not running away, and it gives me courage.

 Sincerely,

David E. Gregory Sr.

March on America

Feb 24, 2008 in Ron Paul General

As a prelude to the march on Washington, we envision and are actively promoting rallies and demonstrations in major cities throughout the States on April 15th. This will serve many functions, including the rallying of our troops to show the significance of our numbers nationwide. Let us come together en masse with all other groups that are against the unconstitutional “income tax” and let our voices be heard.
As the Granny Warriors do their part to bring the movement’s message to Washington on April 15th, those of us who cannot get to our nation’s capital that day can band together in our cities to show that this is truly a nationwide effort.
We have applied for a permit to demonstrate here in Atlanta at Centennial Park(coincidentally just outside of CNN’s HQ) and are seeking organizers from other cities. We have just launched the website revolutionmarches.com with the intention of spreading this event far and wide.
There is a planned event at the Fed building in Pittsburgh, Pa. and more to follow. Check it out here: taxday08.com
Let’s all come together and make this April 15th a day to remember, maybe even a date for the history books of the future free America that has had its government repossessed by We the People!

Ms. Langford Freeman to consult with RonPaulPublic.com candidates for local elections

Feb 19, 2008 in Ron Paul General

R3volution Campaign Consulting

by former Ron Paul Congressional Campaign Staffer

Ever wonder how Ron Paul could win in his district over and over again despite all odds? Republicans, Democrats and Independents have tried to unseat him. They even tried redistricting him out of a job and that didn’t work either! Thanks to the Freedom message and his long time faithful and aggressive Congressional campaign staff, he has managed to not only hold on to his seat but he keeps winning by wider margins.

Dr Paul’s former District Political Director has agreed to work with us to help some select candidates continue “The Revolution”. We know that we have to take back this country one race at time, and the best place to start is with the most powerful jobs at the local level.

Penny Langford-Freeman was Dr. Paul’s district political director and managed all grassroots activities. Penny has made a name for herself in Dr. Paul’s district and across the entire state of Texas. She is a sought after speaker as she has been Dr. Paul’s spokesman for the last decade, in District 14 and beyond. Penny knows how to build grassroots momentum, to fight hard and win races.

Our commitment is to those who are TRULY Constitutional Conservatives and who will run to win on Dr. Ron Paul’s Freedom Message. NO RINOs NEED APPLY!

For candidates who wish to take advantage of this unique opportunity, please send us your resume, outline your Ron Paul credentials, three recommendations, any demographics and the office you are seeking. You must also sign the release form which allows us to check your background history. We will research and verify what you tell us. You will be called to determine your commitment and qualifications.

The next step is to refer you to Penny for a second screening and if you meet certain criteria (we are dead serious about Ron Paul credentials) then Penny will work with you to win your race.

Once again, we do not want to waste your time or Penny’s expertise, so please do not apply unless you are serious and have the stated credentials.

Here is a list of documents you will need. So please print or scan them into your computer. Then, e-mail them to us at carol@RonPaulPublic.com. Please put your resume, Ron Paul credentials and any other documents you send to us in Word format. If you cut and paste them into an e-mail, the formatting will not come through. No hard copies please!

Document list:

  1. Resume
  2. Ron Paul credentials
